Highlands County, Florida
Venus real estate
The quiet southern end of the county, where parcels are large and neighbours are distant.
Buying in Venus
Venus sits in the southern reaches of Highlands County and is the most rural place the brokerage works. The parcels are large, the roads are long, and the appeal is space and quiet rather than amenity. People who buy here have generally decided that being far from a supermarket is a feature.
Much of the surrounding landscape is native Florida scrub and ranch country, some of it under conservation management. That has a real effect on the property market: it constrains what can be developed nearby, which some buyers value highly and others find limiting. Either way it is worth understanding before you commit.
This is a land market first. Houses come up occasionally and tend to be either working homesteads or retreats. Anyone buying here should plan on doing more due diligence than a town purchase requires, simply because more of the fundamentals are unresolved on a raw parcel.
What trades here
- Large acreage parcels
- Ranch and scrub ground, sometimes with existing agricultural use.
- Rural retreats
- A dwelling on land, usually off the municipal grid entirely.
- Hunting and recreational land
- Bought for use rather than yield.
- Long hold investment ground
- Where the thesis is patience rather than income.
